In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Your Number One.”

The number one music hit in the US on the day I was born was Jack and Diane by John Cougar.  I’m sure you know the song, it spans generations.

“Oh yeah, life goes on
Long after the thrill of livin’ is gone
Oh yeah, I say, life goes on
Long after the thrill of livin’ is gone”

This song, though John Mellancamp originally had Jack and Diane as different races, still resonates with people today, all this years later.  It’s been over thirty years (even if I don’t want to admit I’m over thirty) and kids still know this song.  Many people take it as two teenage kids who fall for each other and have to grow up eventually, though still together, and they wish they could go back to the carefree days when they were younger.  Some even take it as teenage parents who are forced to grow up because of the life they are bringing into the world.
